Cocktail Hour: The Irish Cure

Here is this year's cocktail in honor of St. Patrick's day.  It is called the Irish Cure, and it is almost like an Irish version of Long Island Iced Tea because there it is a lot of booze in this drink (whiskey, rum and apple brandy)!  The good news is that despite all the booze, the drink is very smooth and drinkable and definitely will cure whatever ails you!  This is just what I need this St. Patrick's day weekend, which also happens to be my birthday weekend.  I may be celebrating a bit of a milestone bday this year (yes, I am turning 30... I wish ; )  I am vacillating between having a bit of the birthday blues and feeling surprisingly OK/excited about it.  This killer cocktail will help me get through it!  Happy St. Patrick's Day and Happy Birthday to Me!

This is way more sophisticated way than green beer to celebrate the luck of the Irish.   Irish whiskey is combined with apple brandy, dark rum, honey and "ginger juice"  That ginger juice is the secret killer ingredient here  - it is very easy to make (put some ginger in a garlic press) and it takes this drink to a whole other place.  This may be my new favorite cocktail - but fair warning  - one is all you need!

Ingredients
1 and 1/3  ounces of Irish Whiskey
1/3 ounce dark rum
2 and 1/2 teaspoons apple brandy or calvados
1/3 ounce lemon juice
1/4 ounce simple syrup
1/2 ounce honey mixed with 1/2 ounce with warm water
1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger juice (take fresh ginger, peel, put pieces in garlic press, push ginger through and collect juice from ginger)
Dash of Angostura bitters
thin apple slice for garnish

Directions:

1. Put all ingredients except apple slice in cocktail shaker filled with ice. 
2. Shake to combine.
3. Pour into coupe glass, garnish with apple slice.
